A tired tiled roof can look and perform much better after a proper restoration. Here are the five main steps involved.
1. Inspection
Every restoration starts with a full inspection of the tiles, ridges, valleys, flashings and roof space, so the plan addresses what the roof actually needs.
2. Cleaning
The roof is cleaned to remove dirt, moss and lichen, which thrive in Auckland's damp climate. A moss treatment helps slow regrowth.
3. Repairs
Cracked and broken tiles are replaced, slipped tiles re-laid, and valleys and flashings repaired or replaced where needed.
4. Ridge Capping
Loose ridge caps are re-bedded and re-pointed with a flexible pointing compound that copes with roof movement.
5. Protective Coating
Concrete tiles are coated to seal the surface and refresh the colour. Clay tiles generally do not need coating.
